
Crack open the champers at the Aigburth Arms... everybody's favourite intergallactic Scouser Dave Lister is returning to our TV screens in an epic Easter Red Dwarf special.
Its been 21 years since the show's BBC2 launch, but digital channel Dave are ressurecting the band of misfit space travellers for a two-part story, which sees the cast finally return to Earth.
Announced by Robert Llewellyn for Grant Naylor Productions at the UKTV seasonal press launch, the project also feature an improv specials to celebrate Red Dwarf's 21st birthday.
Written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator Doug Naylor, the new show reunites the original line-up of Craig Charles (Lister), Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Danny John-Jules (Cat), Llewellyn (Kryten) and Norman Lovett/Hattie Haybridge (Holly).
The hit show ran for eight series on BBC 2 between 1988 and 1999 and won an International Emmy award.
At its peak, Red Dwarf pulled in around eight million viewers and was broadcast in more than 25 countries.
The new two-part series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth will be followed by a 'no holds barred' episode without sets, special effects or an autocue.
The weekend will climax with Red Dwarf: the Making of Back to Earth, a behind-the-scenes special from the new episodes.
