Liverpool Community College is to play host to a tournament based on the popular online video game League of Legends next month.

The three-day event aims to attract the city's top gamers but members of the public can also attend as spectators regardless of whether they study at the college.

Competitors will have the chance to win as much as £1000 and any additional proceeds raised will be donated to The British Heart Foundation.

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games for PC. The game was derived from the popular 'Defense of the Ancients' map for Blizzard Entertainment's 2002 release Warcraft III.

Leading manufacturer of professional gaming mice, headsets, keyboards and other peripherals SteelSeries Gaming is sponsoring the event, which is said to have attracted interest from across the UK.

The League of Legends tournament will take place at Liverpool Community College's Learning Exchange site on Roscoe Street between 18th and 20th February. Spectators will be charged an entry fee of £3 for the entire event.
