Visitors to St George’s Hall are in for a treat this summer with its precious Minton tile floor on display.
The elaborate mosaic floor of Great Hall is normally covered to protect it from wear.
But the Minton tiles are on display until 15th August and children are being invited to draw their own interpretation of the tiles.
Entries will be judged and the winner will be given a special chocolate tile featuring their own design, created and sponsored by Chocorella.
The floor is to be uncovered for two weeks only from 2nd August.
Cabinet member for culture and tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon said: "Every time the tiles on the Great Hall are revealed is special and never fails to attract a huge response from visitors.
"This amazing display of craftsmanship is not to be missed.
"i would urge anyone who hasn’t yet seen the Minton Tiles to visit St George’s Hall and take the opportunity to see not just the Tiles but also the prestigious concert room.
"With more tours and activities on offer this summer there really is something for everyone, even if you have been before it’s a day out not to be missed."
This year the Minton Tiles aren’t the only attraction, for the first time ever visitors will also be able to take a limited edition behind the scenes tour of the Hall, wander through its many corridors and read about it afterwards in a special guide book.
The floor consists of 30,000 hand crafted tiles, many depicting the world famous Liver Bird along with Neptune, sea nymphs, dolphins and tridents.
The tiles can be viewed daily from 10am – 5pm with the last admission at 4.30pm every day. There is a small admission charge of £2 for adults, (which includes entry to see the floor and Concert room), under 16s are free.
