Expect to see fiery stilt walkers, dinosaurs, acrobats and magic in St Helens town centre next month - when the streets burst into life with a brand new showcase event.

Summer Streets promises breathtaking outdoor attractions during three packed days of urban entertainment from Thursday 2 August to Saturday 4 August.

The stellar line-up of world-class artists features comedy, music, acrobatics, dance, magic and theatre. All the action takes place on the streets and best of all - it's completely free!

Highlights include The Foodies - a comedy chef and his hilariously hopeless trainee; Farenheight - the fiery stilt walkers; Tiny the Dinosaur - an amazingly life-like dinosaur and a wonderful children's show inside the belly of a 30-foot long sleeping pig!

Squashbox Theatre will wow audiences with their puppetry, storytelling, live music and comedy routines. It's a fantastic spectacle. Also well worth catching is the world famous Gareth Jones - an amazing escapologist who breaks free from a straightjacket, chains and cling film!

Returning to St Helens are the hugely popular Turbo Jonez & The Temple of Boom - a bombastic one man comedy dance show featuring beats from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s - and Granny Turismo, aka Doris, Mary and Marge who arrive on their souped-up shopping trolleys delivering laughter and mischief in equal measure.

Other stand out acts include Lobster a la Cart - giant lobsters who entertain the crowds; children's favourites The Urban Meerkats - delightfully cuddly and larger than usual meerkats - and Dan the Hat, who dazzles with his yoyo skills yoyo and jaw-dropping hat routines!

Deputy Leader of St Helens Council and Cabinet Member for Urban Regeneration, Housing and Culture Councillor Barrie Grunewald said: "We're thrilled that we're able to deliver this brand new Summer Streets event for the people of St Helens.

"The event is simply brimming with wild and wonderful street acts that will amaze and enthrall audiences of all ages. It's top-drawer entertainment from across the world - and it won't cost a penny to see it!

"Summer Streets is just one part of St Helens Council's comprehensive town centre event programme - designed to support town centre retailers and provide residents and visitors with a range of cultural opportunities in the heart of the town centre."
