Just one week to go until Carnival fever hits Liverpool

Britain’s favourite Brazilian carnival, BRAZILICA is back for a three day event from Friday 13th – Sunday 15th July 2012 with something for everyone over the festival weekend: music, dance, art, sport, culture, food and film for the whole family to enjoy. All of which provide a vibrant backdrop to Liverpool Carnival Company’s spectacular Saturday night-time parade!

Brazilica 2012 promises to be Liverpool's most exciting, exotic and vibrant spectacle: a Rio-style Brazilian samba carnival exploding with life, music and dazzling costumes through the streets of the city centre. Brazilica 2012 is set to be even bigger and better than last year, with Samba bands and performers from all over the world donning their costumes to be a part of one of the world’s most exciting Samba festivals.

Maeve Morris of Liverpool Carnival Company said: "We are really happy with the festival programme and cannot wait to bring the carnival spirit to Liverpool again this year. It is a pleasure to have so many samba schools taking part in this year’s parade, an amazing line up of Brazilian artists throughout the festival. I am so grateful to all the groups and volunteers working behind the scenes that have supported us for the last six years and make it all possible.”
Brazilica 2012 will comprise of three exciting days of fiesta:

FRIDAY 13th JULY

On the evening of Friday 13th July a charity gig in aid of ABC (Action for Brazil’s Children) will kick start the festival celebrations at Nation as Brazilica teams up with Festinho for an explosive Carnival themed opening party at Nation. Boasting a stellar line up of DJs and 3 rooms of live bands, we will see large numbers of revellers partying Brazilian style until the early hours, warming up for the weekend’s events.

Festinho are to bring the magic of their renowned fundraising music festival to Liverpool for one night only, kicking off this year’s Brazilica festival, the UK’s largest Brazilian Carnival event. Friday 13 July will see Liverpool’s legendary Nation (the home of Cream) rocking to Brazilian beats, the perfect way to kick off the carnival weekend to come. All the proceeds from the evening will go to the ABC (Action For Brazil’s Children) Trust.
A stellar line up of acts is confirmed for the event, including Norman Jay , DJ Marky & Stamina MC, Hexstatic with live 3D show Holotronica, Saravah Soul, The Fontanas, Tribo de Pasada, DJ Cal Jader and many more great acts to follow.

SATURDAY 14TH JULY

Brazilica will take over Williamson Square in Liverpool city centre showcasing some of the best Brazilian musicians, finest Brazilian cuisine and sizzling samba dance all day long. New for 2012, Bold St will be closed to traffic for one day only, and animated with live samba music and dance performances throughout the day as Liverpool’s independent retail district dresses its shop fronts and opens its doors late into the night to truly get into the Brazilian carnival spirit.

The Soccer Zone
The stand-alone Soccer Zone is back for 2012. It’s your opportunity to get involved in 5-a-side soccer tournaments, brush up on your footie-skills in coaching sessions with FIFA-registered coaches, have a bash at a family-friendly penalty shoot-out and be in awe of some of the world’s best football freestylers. Get your boots on, it’s Brazilian soccer time! Meeting Soccer Zone goers on the day will be Olympic Torch Bearer Mark Morrow and Liverpool Football Club Health Trainers.

Together with principal partners Liverpool Football Club, AFC Liverpool, Brazilian Soccer Schools and Liverpool Homelessness Football Club with generous support from Liverpool PCT and the 20/20 Decade of Health and Wellbeing, Brazilica 2012 will recreate the electric atmosphere of a Brazilian sports arena in Clayton Square. Juice FM presenter Baz Todd will be hosting the whole event. LFC’s Lucas Leiva has donated a signed football shirt to be which one lucky Brazilica visitor will win on the day.

Main Stage at Williamson Square

One Samba band is travelling all the way from Singapore, specifically for Brazilica! Sambiesta is one of the few percussion bands in Singapore that plays hot and sexy Brazilian Samba music. Made up of young and energetic music enthusiasts, the band specializes in fusing modern funk, drum and bass and other unique beats with the traditional and ethnic Afro-Brazilian percussion. Sambiesta will take part in the parade and perform on the Williamson Square stage.
Yanbin Tan of Sambiesta said: “Sambiesta is really excited to be a part of this year's Brazilica. Some of us have played at the Drogheda Samba Festival and Coburg Samba Festival before, but this is our first time as a band performing at an overseas festival. We're looking forward to bringing our music overseas with this opportunity to share our moves and beats as we take in the sounds and sights of the UK’s biggest Brazilian samba festival. We're also really keen to meet up and learn from other bands that will be at Liverpool. July can't come sooner!”

Innovative samba & Jazz fusion quartet Tribo Da Pesada, who will also grace the Williamson Square stage, will be joined by a renowned singer all the way from Rio. Fabio Allman, front man for Rio superstars Monobloco, is a showman used to performing all over Brazil to 100,000 people a time!

Williamson Square will also play host to a Brazilian food and street market with mouthwatering goods on offer.

The BRAZILICA Carnival Parade

The jewel in the crown of Brazilica Festival – the night-time Carnival Parade – will alight the city streets as it winds its way through the centre climaxing in a confetti-filled finale in the square.

2012 will see the Liverpool Carnival Company’s fifth Brazilian Samba Parade sweep through the streets of Liverpool city centre. Over the years the parade has included local, national and international samba schools. Last year the parade attracted an audience of up to 60,000 people! For Brazilica 2012 the parade is predicted to go from strength to strength getting bigger and better than ever.

Tens of thousands will be lining the streets to cheer the dazzling night-time parade, hundreds of performers will Take part in this Rio-style carnival weaving its way through the city centre with glittering costumes, floats and irresistible samba. The parade will culminate in an unforgettable finale on Williamson Square.

Those who want to carry on celebrating until the early hours can then attend the legendary Brazilica after-show party at Nation from 10.30am – 3.30pm!

SUNDAY 15TH JULY

Sunday 15th July will be renamed Samba Sunday with exhibitions and performances taking place across the city centre and a closing party which will see out this weekend of Latin fever in samba-tastic style!

Liverpool’s city centre will be awash with Brazilian arts and culture as some of the world’s finest Samba bands take to the streets with bespoke performances throughout the day. There’ll be a chance to view some of the finest Brazilian films and view some exciting and authentic Brazilian art showcases at cultural venues around the city. Keep your eyes peeled.

BRAZILICA promises to be Liverpool's most exciting, exotic and vibrant spectacle, exploding with life, music, sport and dazzling costumes through the streets of the city centre, so get BRAZILICA 2012 (13 – 15 July) in your diaries and get ready to party with Liverpool Carnival Company.
