Be prepared to revisit the history of Liverpool as a brand new theatrical experience is taking to the streets of our much-loved city this summer. Having being devised by the creative talents at Lovehistory, the authority of bringing history to life, A Tale of Two Cities Tour will recreate and revisit the humble beginnings of the city of Liverpool.
A Tale of Two Cities Tour presents Liverpool as a city of contrasts and reveals how a quaint fishing village nestled on the banks of the River Mersey became the second city of the British Empire. This enjoyable, revealing and fun experience traces Liverpool’s past through close encounters with the characters and figures that have shaped our city and our identity including the old fish wives of Formby… they may be tough as old boots and they certainly aren’t afraid to speak their mind!
Lovehistory is in the business of transporting Liverpool’s diverse, radical and rich heritage to the present day! With a dedicated team of talented and creative individuals, each committed to achieving excellence in all their theatrical endeavours to ensure that this unique theatrical experience which allow audience to experience street theatre at its very best. As guides revel in recounting their captivating tales, Lovehistory’s distinctively dazzling and devilish performances will leave audience enchanted and entertained.

Beginning at Liverpool’s famous Town Hall, visitors will be led through seven of the city’s original streets, meticulously tracing the path walked by their ancestors. Groups are guided around Liverpool’s earliest streets and ancient medieval hotspots including Hackins Hay, burial ground for our Quaker ancestors, Leather Lane, Dale Street, Victoria Street, William Brown Street; all of these streets have a tale to tell and Lovehistory leave no stone unturned in order to unravel these lost tales. Each exciting expedition ends in spectacular fashion on the steps of the iconic St George’s Hall, a destination that has provided the city with a collective space for celebration, for mourning, for protesting and for remembering. This theatrical tour is a must see, spookily accurate and excellent value for money!
Last year saw the first partnership between Lovehistory and the History Department of Liverpool University. The students produced the research for the themes related to the murder cases of James Maybrick and Julia Wallace, and the Irish Famine of the 1840s. Lovehistory have developed a series of school packages that include theatrical performances, re-enactments and creative workshops and are looking forward to working with the students again this year with the aim of strengthening this one of a kind collaboration.
Lovehistory are also currently developing a youth theatre. This has been made possible through their partnership with Neighbourhood Services Company Liverpool, an organisation working in community regeneration and developing opportunities for young people and the Alt Valley Youth Theatre. Their aim is to have a real focus on developing the creative talents of participants who will have an opportunity to promote and celebrate their city through performance.
Theatrically led, containing themed content related to the history and heritage of Liverpool and led by the colourful characters from history who will guide you through some fascinating journeys and locations Lovehistory are set to provide the definitive and most thriller way to experience the streets of Liverpool.
