The organisers of the free annual Africa Oye festival are readying themselves for their 20th anniversary in 2012. Africa Oye will be taking place on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th June 2012 and is expecting record numbers of attendees; attracting local, national and international fans. The family-oriented music festival, held every summer at Sefton Park, aims to showcase a broad variety of African and Caribbean talent and culture, as well as providing lots of different activities, games and stalls.
The Africa Oye weekend is targeted at all demographics, but particularly families, who can enjoy such things as live music, authentic African food, face paints, souvenirs, arts, crafts and dance classes. Africa Oye has given a platform to many stars since 1992, including Andrew Tosh, Marcia Griffiths and Bonga. The organisers will make 2012’s line-up public as soon as it has been confirmed. As the festival celebrates its twentieth anniversary, the organisers are anticipating Africa Oye to be even more popular than last year, which was their biggest weekend to date. The festival has rapidly grown in popularity since 1992 and is now a key event on Merseyside’s cultural calendar. Fans can stay fully updated on the latest news from Oye ahead of the festival. In addition to their website (http://africaoye.com), Africa Oye is firmly established on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
