Cheshire has created its very own ‘12 Days of Christmas’ tourist trail - complete with a partridge in a pear tree.
Attractions from across the county have come together to give a special twist to the favourite Yuletide song.
Each of them has a link to one of the lines of the festive classic, whether it be the ten lords a leaping at the Santa Dash fun run at Chester racecourse, or the family of partridges which have set up home next to the pear trees at Arley Hall and Gardens, Northwich.
Other ‘12 Days of Christmas’ events include the eight maids a milking at the Cheshire Farm Ice Cream farm, which has created its own mince pie flavoured ice cream for the Christmas period.
Tracy Lynn, Director, said: "We decided to have some fun this Christmas with the 12 days, and we’ve come up with a trail which we think will really allow visitors to get into the spirit of the season.
"It also includes some unusual links to the song that people might not be aware of."
Cheshire’s 12 days of Christmas involves:
Twelve drummers drumming: Drummers from Chester Samba Band will be playing at parades and events in the city centre in the run up to Christmas.
Eleven pipers piping: Roman pipers at the city’s Roman annual festival of Saturnalia on December 15, when Chester's Roman Legionnaires reclaim the city as they parade through the streets with flaming torches.
Ten Lords a-leaping: Festive Father Christmases raising money for charity at the Santa Dash fun run, which starts at Chester Racecourse at 9.30am on Sunday December 11.
Nine ladies dancing: High kicking Showstopper Dancers at the Old Time Music Hall event, being held on Tuesday December 6, as part of Winterfest, Macclesfield’s three-week music, theatre and culture event.
Eight maids a-milking: Watching the cows being milked in the special viewing gallery at Cheshire Farm Ice Cream farm at Tattenhall.
Seven swans a-swimming: Watch the swans swimming majestically across the lakes at Tatton Park
Six geese a-laying: Goose eggs and festive foul for sale at the Christmas market outside Chester Town Hall from November 24 to Christmas Eve.
Five gold rings: Walk off your festive over-indulgences with a visit to the popular Victorian Orford community park, which is being transformed into the only Olympic legacy project outside London, courtesy of a £30million investment.
Four calling birds: The birds are often taken as a biblical reference to the four Gospels.
Three French hens: Try making and eating the festive French hen biscuits which are one of the highlights of the cookery classes and children’s parties held at the Speckled Hen Country Bakery, near Crewe.
Two turtle doves: Ten species of doves, pigeons and turtles too, at Chester Zoo.
And a partridge in a pear tree! See the family of partridges which have set up home near the pear trees in the gardens of Arley Hall.
