Liverpool actor Stephen Fletcher has had his Christmas wish for 2008 granted! He has been chosen from a raft of hopefuls to play Prince Charming opposite Jennifer Ellison, in Cinderella at the Empire Theatre.

Cinderella is Britain's No. 1 panto for 2008, with a star-studded cast including the one and only Cilla Black who returns to her native city to play the Fairy Godmother.

Alongside model and actress Jennifer Ellison as Cinderella, Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard as Dandini, comedian and TV star Les Dennis as Buttons and actor Ted Robbins as Baron Hardup.

Radio presenter Pete Price and Brick up the Mersey Tunnels star Roy Brandon play the Ugly Sisters.

It was the aim of First Family Entertainment (the panto producers) to give the role of Prince Charming to an up-and-coming Liverpool actor, and Huyton-born Stephen is certainly that.

He has already performed lead roles in a number of productions at famous Liverpool theatres, including Joey in Eric's at the Everyman Theatre, Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Liverpool Shakespeare Festival) and Peter in Stags and Hens at the Royal Court.

Stephen also played Max (Herod's sidekick) in the Liverpool Nativity and has extensive TV and voiceover experience. Stephen graduated from LIPA (The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) in 2002 with a first class honours degree.

This role alongside stars of stage, screen and radio will put his talent in the spotlight and could lead to nationwide fame and acclaim.

Stephen said: "As a Liverpool actor, I have followed the city's year as Capital of Culture, and have been an active participant in the itinerary already.

"This will be the perfect end to a greatt year at the Empire. To see the end of the Capital of Culture celebrations in such a great venue, with such a fantastic cast and with such a buzz around the production would be a dream end to 2008."

Traditionally the most popular pantomime title of them all, the Cinderella story has timeless appeal to old and young alike, with lavish, glittering costumes and spectacular staging, lots of laughter and its celebrity-filled cast, Cinderella at the Liverpool Empire is THE panto to see in the UK this Christmas.
