Calling all budding playwrights... Liverpool's Theatre in the Rough Festival needs you!

Organisers of the Sefton-based event are seeking participants from the Merseyside area aged 13-25 to write new, bold and exciting works for the stage.

The plays will be performed during Spring 2011 at one of Liverpool's many theatres. Scripts will also be published in an anthology and displayed as part of an exhibition at the Botanic Gardens Museum in Southport.

Artistic Director Chris Fittock said: "This year's festival is centred around the theme of Sefton's 'Hidden History'.

"Working with historians, as well as experts from the Botanic Gardens Museum, writers will research the borough's links with the American Civil War, pioneers of early aviation in Formby, and the origins of a Viking canoe unearthed at Crossens.

"These will be the starting points for writing original plays for today, supported by a full and exciting workshop programme with professional theatre and film makers."
