Ladies and Gentlemen, the time has come for you to look fierce and put the bass in your walk. House of Suarez invites you to release YOUR inner DIVA at “RUNWAY” - The Justice Vogue Ball.
Following the spectacular sell out success of ‘Liverpool Is Burning, The Grand Vogue Ball’, House of Suarez is delighted to return with their second ball, to be held at Liverpool’s Nation (Cream Super Club) on Friday 29th October from 7pm.
For one night only, high art will meet club culture to create the ultimate voguing experience. Prepare to be amazed and astounded as a fantastical showcase of high fashion, performance, and dance streams down the catwalk.
“RUNWAY” will offer a dance platform that focuses and celebrates the genre of Vogue (Vogue originated from the Black and Latino culture of New York). Whacking (derives from Vogue and is famously associated with Saturday Night Fever, revitalised and refreshed by Destiny’s Child divas Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland) and House Dance (derived from early nineties, Chicago House Music, an influential underground club culture).
The night will feature some of the UK’s finest voguers, whackers, and House Dancers who will all battle it out for cash prizes and ultimate voguing supremacy.
The evening will begin with a dazzling performance from ‘Father’ and Artistic Director of House of Suarez, Darren Suarez. Following this, the competition gets underway featuring a plethora of different categories.
Strutting their stuff on the catwalk will also be some serious sexy human specimens, bizarre creatures, and live Pa's.
Whilst legendary actor, writer and dancer Rikki Beadle Blair keeps it all together in his role as Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
Renowned ‘Black Angel’ DJ Claud Cunningham sets the ‘wheels of steel’ spinning with a mix of old and new skool pop, hip hop, R ‘n’ B, house, disco and funk.
House of Suarez has been the brain-child of Artistic Director Darren Suarez since its immaculate conception in 2006. This innovative theatre company has followed explorative, creative paths to develop new forms of event interpretation.
Darren said:
" RUNWAY - The Justice Vogue Ball is very close to my heart, not only because Vogue and its culture is a massive part of me, but through personal events that have touched my life.
"Through the arts, fashion and music “RUNWAY” - The Justice Vogue Ball will bring people together under one roof to celebrate individuality and diversity.”
“RUNWAY” The Justice Vogue Ball is one of Culture Liverpool’s 10 for 2010 commissions and is also a major highlight in the calendar of the LEAP 2010 year of dance.
