Liverpool’s Hard Days Night Hotel has been commemorating the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death after taking part in filming for an exclusive ITV1 documentary, counting down the star’s moments to his untimely death.
The documentary, entitled ‘The Day John Lennon Died’, is being produced by TV company Finestripe Productions and will be aired on ITV1 this December to mark the anniversary of his death on the 8th December.
The production will include a host of exclusive interviews with John Lennon’s personal friends, along with major figures in the world of arts, entertainment and politics, who will talk about their memories of the tragic day and what the musician continues to mean to the world of music.
Mike Dewey, General Manager at The Hard Day’s Night Hotel, says: “We were delighted to be approached by Finestripe Productions to do filming in the hotel for the documentary. Most of the filming takes place in the John Lennon suite, which we thought was a fitting tribute to do the interviews. The hotel will be hosting its own series of events to mark the John Lennon Tribute season throughout the autumn so it is fantastic that we can also be part of this special documentary.”
The filming marks a series of Beatles-themed activity at the hotel this summer. The hotel is currently supporting the Beatles Day Foundation charity and has hosted a series of fundraising events including recreating the Beatles famous rooftop gig performance with a live performance by the Backbeat Beatles in July. The hotel will also be marking the 45th anniversary of the ‘Help’ album with an exclusive performance by the Backbeat Beatles in the hotel on the 14th August.
Lorraine McKechnie, Assistant Producer at Finestripe Productions, added: “We would like to thank Hard Days Night Hotel for their involvement in the documentary. Our aim for the documentary is to give a new perspective and cultural insight into one of the major musicians and creative forces of the 20th century. The documentary will look at the day of John Lennon’s death as a watershed moment in our recent history, like the death of Kennedy or Princess Diana. It will show how John continues to influence not just people who were around at the time but younger generations as well.”
‘The Day John Lennon Died’ will be shown on ITV1 in the week leading up to the anniversary of John Lennon’s death.
