The 19th century is coming to life at Speke Hall this weekend, with a taste of Victorian-style crafts, costumed tours and live entertainment.
Visitors can enjoy all things Victorian, including an all-time favourite Punch and Judy Show, a selection of wonderful Victorian tales to listen to – plus lots of fun craft activities for children.
Anne Inskip, House Steward and Events Manager at Speke Hall says:
“Nineteenth century England will be brought to life this weekend, as fun is on the menu! See the sideshows and practise your aim at the coconut shy, or steady your hand for the hoopla – and all to the happy background sound of the Victorian Fair Organ. Or perhaps you prefer music of the period preformed on an authentic guitar in the Great Hall?
Anne goes on to explain:
“Victorian art and craft demonstrations will be held throughout the weekend, including lacemaking, embroidery and Victorian landscape painting.
And for our younger visitors, trying on costumes is always popular, where they can dress up in Victorian outfits and imagine what it would’ve been like to be a child all those years ago.”
The ‘Victorian Jollies Weekend’ takes place Saturday 7 - Sunday 8 August
12noon – 4.30pm, with different crafts available on different days.
Normal admission rates apply; there is a small charge of £1 per child for craft activities.
Booking is not required for the event and all children must be accompanied.
