Doing it for the girls is hot tip for 2009 Little Boots, real name Victoria Hesketh, who has escaped her illuminated, yet down at heel home town of Blackpool for the bright lights of London.
Dressed in a sexy black number with a sprinkling of gold, the 25-year-old made her Liverpool debut at the Sound City festival at the O2 Academy 2 – packing out the intimate venue.
“Wow, it’s so hot in here,” the electropop cutie says as she arrived on stage. Hot sums up this gig perfectly, from Boots’ look and performance to the sweat dripping from the ceiling and walls. Latecomers were lucky if they caught a glimpse of the diminutive Boots, the place was rammed and many could not see the petite singer.
Boots gave her fans a mix of young, old, men, women, boys, girls, gay and straight people a taste of her debut album Hands.
She gave her new single 'New In Town' a plug and asked her fans to get it to the No.1 on the iTunes chart.
Packed full of synthesizer sounds, it’s easy to understand why Little Boots’ music has drawn comparisons to pop princess Kylie Minogue and St Etienne.
Stand-out tracks included ‘Stuck On Repeat’ produced by Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and ‘Mathematics.’
As she took a breather, Hesketh asks: “Is my little brother here?” When she spots him she waves and smiles proudly before thrashing out ‘Remedy.’
Bringing the focus to the electro sound Boots pulled out her favourite toy - the Tenori-on - a Japanese instrument that looks like a Tetris game and flashes in time with the beats. Whether it had any effect was debatable, but it certainly added to the whole electro feel.
To think this girl was rejected from the music TV reality show Pop Idol eight years ago. What does that say about you Mr Cowell?
Little Boots releases her debut album Hands on 8 June.
