Northwest Band "Kingfin" are a step closer to being crowned the Live and Unsigned band competition winners 2009.

The Liverpool-based outfit have made it through the regional finals and have their sights firmly set on coming out victorious at that event on 3rd May - putting them in poll position for triumph in the national grand final in June.

If the group can out-sing the other 150 acts they will have the chance to perform for the title and share the stage with chart-topping band Kings of Leon at the Vodafone Award ceremony at Brixton Academy in London.

The winners will be crowned the best UK Live and Unsigned act of 2009 at the Vodafone Awards, and also win a Recording contract and the release of a fully-marketed single.

Live and Unsigned is the nation’s biggest music competition for unsigned acts and had over 10,000 entries this year.

The four members Jamie Finnie (vocals) Barry Hayes (bass) and Duanne Yates (guitar) Matthew King (drums) are hoping they have a chance of coming out on top.

Jamie the lead singer said: “It feels fantastic to have got through after so many people signed up for the competition. We feel so positive as a band that we have come this far and are so close to getting signed.

“All we are asking for now is to get as much support as we can from local people, which is what could really make this happen for us.

“We have performed Dirty Little Secret at the competition so far and that is the one we would release although nothing is certain yet.

“If we won we would get to be on the same bill as the Kings of Leon that would be a privilege and dream come true for us.”

Former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren is set to judge Live and Unsigned final on along with a host of other music industry buffs and specialists.

Kingfin will be competing amongst other talented hopefuls at the Area Final show held at The Willows in Salford May 3rd for a place in the National Grand final planned for June 27th at Portsmouth’s Guildhall.

You can also see them play along with five other bands at Liverpool’s Zanzi Bar on April 25th.
