Red Dwarf star Danny John Jules has laid claim to being the Godfather of UK hip-hop and counts Dizzee Rascal as one of his biggest fans.
Danny John Jules, who plays hipster The Cat in the cult sci-fi show says he went to a Dizzee gig and met the Dance Wiv Me rapper, who was starstruck.
Actor Danny, 48, aka DJ Sir Jules and the Knights of the Turntable also says Tim Westwood learned his mixing skills from him.
Danny, a close mate of New York rap pioneer Grandmaster Flash also revealed an embarrasing secret about Radio 1 star Westwood - he was a glass collector.
The Red Dwarf star described how Dizzee, who looks set to have another chart-topping hit on his hands with Bonkers, pointed the Cat out to Justin Timberlake and asked to have a photo with his comedy hero.
Danny, sporting a new beard, said: "I can lay claim to being the godfather of British hip-hop, being one of the first DJs in the UK to play rap records.
"Dizzee Rascal knows all about it.
"I love the Dizzee's style, I've met him and he's a big Red Dwarf fan.
"We got a photograph together outside the Apollo in Hammersmith.
"He'd just come off stage from a massive gig with Justin Timberlake and Wyclef Jean.
"And I met him in an alleyway by the stage door and he said to Justin: "Oh my God, don't you know who that is?"
"He said 'It's the Cat. I'm meeting all my heroes tonight.' which felt great.
"We swapped numbers and we stay in touch.
"So bow down Tim Westwood! When I was DJ-ing in the early days Tim Westwood was collecting glasses at Gossips... And he knows it.
"Yeah! And when Paul Oakenfeld came up he was looking over my shoulder too.
"Oh yes, I was one of the first in the UK to be introduced to hip hop, I went to a club in New York, you're not offically hip hop until you've been to a club called Disco Funk in New
York.
"That was where Grandmaster Flash was the resident DJ.
"Everytime they used to come over they used to call me to take them out on the town.
"They'd never heard of a English black guy who was number one and who was interested in hip hop. Well, it was rap in those days."
