Chibuku, an event never to be missed if you want to be taken away by the power of music and world class DJs.
Last night’s spectacle focussed on the drum and bass sounds from High Contrast to Alex Ridha’s electro-tech paces.
Barfly, formally the venue for Chibuku, has been transformed into The Masque. It was my first time back in the place this term and I was really impressed by the atmosphere in the theatre, it was amazing, the lights and lasers looked great.
I have seen High Contrast a few times before, and this time he was playing in the loft. It has not changed much but Barfly was much grimier and The Masque now has a classier touch to it.
High Contrast was brilliant; the first tune he dropped was his remix of Calvin Harris – Ready for the Weekend. He also played tracks from Sub Focus and Chase & Status.
MC Dynamite was on top form, adding his smooth quirky lyrics which really carried the music well and the crowd responded with great enthusiasm. Without an MC I think the crowd would be more reserved.
It was comparable to Dub Police nights I've been to at the mind-blowing Fabric before, it was almost that good in the Theatre.
Chibuku is always a great social event. You are always guaranteed to bump into familiar faces you haven’t seen for a while.
Asking around, it seemed everyone was there to mainly see Boys Noize and also High Contrast. Being the album launch for Power, everyone was really excited.
The bar areas are again a nice place to chat and chill out in. It was very busy and I had no chance of getting to the front as I normally do but watching the night from a different angle was just as good, different, but still amazing.
The Ink room downstairs was really good also, mainly playing dubstep. It is so hard to make a choice of what room to go in and who to see because there were so many DJs to see and you don't want to miss anything.
Looking forward to more Chibuku in the coming months particularly Sub Focus, Fake Blood, Caspa & Rusko, SMD and Erol Alkan.
