It's the return of the heavy hitters. Chibuku is back in full effect and hitting full stride for the first party of a five Saturday month with a line-up that can only be described in on word; seismic.
Heavily bossed by the bastion of British dub culture, the influence of Bristol permeates deeply into the seams of Chibuku’s fabric for one night. And boy is that influence a good one.
The Theatre raves to the sound of Hospital Records, the benchmark of labels in modern drum n bass aural lore.
Whilst initially focusing on the soulful spectrum of the genre, their pursuit of pure musicality has dripped into other facets of the music, ensuring a much rounded vision. As if to prove this heading up their Liverpool leg tonight is Roni Size, accompanied by his vocal troupe leader MC Dynamite.
There simply isn’t any need for an introduction for the mercury award winning dnb leviathan who has on each Chibuku occasion brought the club to its knees.
There are star turns from label lynchpins High Contrast – still reeling from his Radio 1 Essential Mix of the year in 2007 and seminal album Tough Guys Don’t Dance; scene-leading Logistics; and Blame, one of the most innovative producers in drum & bass. The Theatre is stoked up by Paul McGuire.
Upstairs in the Loft, it’s the return of Boysnoise, who is about to drop his latest lovingly crafted piece of work, Power, to the nation.
This is one of the most anticipated dance floor albums of the year and the work of one of the brightest talents in electronic music today.
Alongside peers Erol Alkan and Justice, Ridha is part of a new mongrel breed of techno artist with a maverick bent and solid vision, beaming a myriad of influences from the past through a prism to create something fresh, new and exciting enough to send his audience loopy.
So much so that the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Kelis and Gonzales have all coming knocking in Alex’s door recently, desperate for an injection of Noize in their own music and expect to hear some of these bombs dropped on Sat 3rd Oct.
Chibuku’s own sonic warrior Dom Chung is on warm up deck duty, spanning everything from deep house to ball out techno.
Over in Ink, The Masque’s brand spanking new intimate haunt, Loefah headliners and without a doubt is a true bastion of dubstep.
His contributions to the DMZ imprint could be considered key moments in the evolution of the genre; whilst his remixes for Skream (on Tempa) and his recent Tectonic outing only serve to enforce this belief.
Unlike other producers (Skream, N-Type, Caspa and Pinch to name but a few), Loefah’s bass excursions don’t venture into the wibbly wobbly sub-aquatic realms, instead shattering audiences rib cages with frequencies that could be used by French riot police.
