Jumpers for goalposts, bedroom critics, the voice of the terrace, bands in the basement and songs you can’t get out of your head.
Shankly was only half right when he spoke of life, death and the relative importance of football.
He missed out the music.
Together they form the twin heartbeats of our towns and cities. They influence the clothes we wear, the places we visit, the sounds we hear and are the subject of millions of conversations in the buildings and on the streets of our fair isle.
So, for 2012, Liverpool Sound City have brought them together - adding Match Day to the LSC programme and celebrating the beautiful game alongside the beautiful sounds.

LSC are proud to announce that, as part of Match Day, Kicking + Screening will be coming to Liverpool: founded in 2009, Kicking + Screening Football Film Festival (K+S) is an annual global series of festivals dedicated to engaging, connecting, and inspiring football fans and film enthusiasts through the celebration and presentation of football culture.
Each year, K+S organize flagship festivals in New York City and London, and satellite festivals around the world. Past locations include: Amsterdam, Washington, D.C., Kerala, India, Houston, Texas, and North Adams, Massachusetts.
Beyond film screenings, K+S festivals include special guests, panel discussions, gala parties, photography, football-themed literature, and other events, all combining to create a unique cultural experience that both reveals and enhances football’s cultural significance.

Brooklyn Boheme
Brooklyn Boheme is a love letter to a vibrant African American artistic community who resided in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill Brooklyn during the 80′s and 90′s that included the great Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Branford Marsalis, Rosie Perez, Saul Williams, Lorna Simpson, Talib Kweli just to name a few.
Narrated and written by Fort Greene resident Nelson George, this feature length documentary celebrates “Brooklyn’s equivalent of the Harlem Renaissance” and follows the rise of a new kind of African American artist, the Brooklyn Boheme.
This community of artists made this part of Brooklyn a mecca for young black and Latinos, where they were bonded by great ambition, good times and jamming parties.
Co-directed by award winning film director Diane Paragas, Brooklyn Boheme is a chronicle of that magical time as a flowering of great art made by black Americans. The documentary is a funny, joyous look at a time and place with charismatic storytellers and dazzling photography telling this amazing story.
Inspiring, dynamic and colorful, Brooklyn Boheme and will make you wish, you too, would have been invited to the party.

Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the NY Cosmos
In 1977, 77,691 people filed into New Jersey's Giants Stadium to watch a football game. And that’s football football, not the American version.
The reason? The NY Cosmos: Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, Chinaglia, rock ‘n’ roll soccer, Studio 54, Mick Jagger in the changing rooms, the excess of New York City in the ‘70s and the spectacular rise and fall of one of the most famed sporting experiments in history. Or as former Cosmos, Shep Messing put it, "We were as big as the Yankees and bigger than the Giants."
The Last Proletarians of Football
They were common workers who trained for a few hours after working and then went on to beat the top teams in Europe. The Last Proletarians of Football is the story of the Swedish Model and how Sven-Göran Eriksson’s IFK Göteborg used it to shake European football to the very core in the 1980s.
But more than the beating of Hamburg, Kaiserslautern and Barcelona, the tale of the Swedish amateurs is also one about the changing face of Swedish culture, the decline of collectivistism and the end of a working class ideal.

The now legendary John Peel World Cup is moving into the heart of the city in 2012, to its new home of Liverpool One Chavasse Park.
Located next to the Liverpool Sound City conference centre at the Hilton, across the road from the Expo at the Liverpool Echo Arena, and a stones throw from the gigs, The John Peel World Cup brings together the best of Liverpool Sound City - music and football.
Flanked by live music programmed by Liverpool Sound City at Liverpool One, the John Peel World Cup will feature 16 teams made of bands and industry professionals, including:
Spiel/K+S, Umbro, Liverpool One, Tea Street Band, Kids In Glass Houses, Ghostpoet, The Kill Van Kulls, Pete And The Harmonics, Bido Lito!, D/R/U/G/S, ‘80s Casuals, with more TBC on the day...
Funds raised from the event go to the British Heart Foundation, in memory of John Peel, whose two great loves were music and Liverpool FC.
