The first release from the recently launched Cavern Records label is an impressive collection of some of Liverpool’s finest bands. Not only are the bands much loved locally they are also starting to make waves further a field.
Fly with Vampires’ Not Wasted on the Young is one of their many anthemic tracks. It is a wonder that the band are currently unsigned as they are making songs that belies their years, and would take pride of place on any self respecting indie band’s album.
Luke Fenlon is only 20 years of age but he has already made an impression on the music world with Radio One championing his track Summer in their BBC Introducing section.
He has also signed a worldwide recording and publishing deal, and he recorded an EP over in L.A. in the back garden studio of Matt Sorum (Guns ‘n’ Roses, Velvet Revolver).
It is Fenlon’s track That Girl which he contributes to this particular release. That Girl captures Fenlon’s knack for writing instantly catchy songs that lyrically observe life’s daily offerings, which everyone can relate to.
It is no wonder Radio One picked up on the emerging talent of Luke Fenlon.
Natalie McCool has been hotly tipped by BBC radio and, after winning a ‘Make It Break It’ award, was signed to Steve Levine’s record label- who was one of the judges.
McCool manages to combine the dark serene beauty of artists such as Tori Amos with her own unique style and soulful voice.
Being Jo Francis have made the pilgrimage from Coventry to Liverpool, and what they have brought with them is the anticipation that only genuinely captivating new bands possess.
The band’s exhilarating live sound translates well to record, and selected track A Long Way To Go leaves you curious and excited about what else this band has to offer.
These are just a few highlights from a well selected release. Cavern Records have been particularly generous with this album by offering up sixteen individual tracks from sixteen equally as impressive acts.
Other bands on the album include: The Sand Band, The Amazing Kappa, The August September, The Fifth Movement, Strawhouses, Two Sunsets, Four Floors Up, Hot//Light//Fiesta, Xander & the Peace Pirates, Fieldhouse, Familiar Looking Strangers, and The Mono LPs.
What the album successfully captures is that Liverpool is still producing and nurturing some of the most eclectic and innovative bands around.
