Elsie

You already know Elsie.

OK, you haven’t heard the belting Discorock beats and bass lines or her unique, throaty vocals before – but you meet her every time you step out of your front door.

Because Elsie represents the army of alpha-women who populate our world today.

The ones you read about in the papers out-bloking the blokes and see dominating your Facebook and Twitter feeds.

With her debut single The Assassin (Bang Bang) due for release end of January 2012, she’s already winning plaudits from the press thanks to an achingly beautiful cover of Stereophonics’ hit Dakota.

Elsie’s unique style and energy have also caught the eye of Adidas, who now endorse her and have earmarked several projects for her in 2012.

Like the girls she sings about on her album, Elsie loves partying on a weeknight, looking for love – and lust - AND making sure her career’s on track.

She’s predatory but romantic, sexual but not slutty, tough but vulnerable and not only expects to get all she wants in life, but knows she deserves it.

Fear not – this isn’t Girl Power reinvented or polished pop music with a few distorted guitars to suggest “attitude”.

There’s no idle boasting or meaningless lyrics over programmed tracks and tweaked autotune choruses.

Elsie makes music for people who like to drink, dance and hear about real life over riff-heavy, Blondie-inspired tracks played by her band of real musicians.

She says: “I’m doing songs for people who listen to Rihanna or Lady GaGa, but love a bit of Kasabian or Arctic Monkeys too.

“You’ll want to dance to it in a nightclub AND sing along at a festival.”

Produced by Jim Lowe, the man behind the Stereophonics’ sound, Elsie’s songs document sex, love, bitchy girls, occasional vulnerability and downright boozy bad behaviour.

“It’s dead simple,” she says. “You take great guitar hooks, thumping beats and chunky bass lines and combine them with lyrics loads of people can identify with.”

As one new fan said after her recent, storming success at London’s infamous 100 Club: “Every song she sang felt like it was about me.”

There’s a new generation of ballsy women out there. This is how they roll. And Rock.

Elsie explains: “I want to be able to rock out but also dance to these songs in a club.

"A friend had introduced me to Jim (Lowe) and I told him the sound I had in my head was like The Strokes or Arctic Monkeys playing Blondie songs!”

Lyrically, Elsie drew on her own experiences to tell the story of a girl in search of bigger and better things in life.

“I wanted to talk about what it’s like being a girl or young woman in the world today,” she says.

You’ll normally find Elsie wearing a pair of killer heels with some sort of smart skirt or top on – teamed with a vintage Adidas number.

“I tend to scrape my hair up in a Croydon Facelift style because it’s quick and I love sportswear as much as high heels.

“We all live in tracksuits up North but show me a girl who doesn’t wear heels on a night out and I‘ll show you a pig with wings!”

So there it is.

Elsie is a likeable, no-nonsense girl with a passion for men, music, clothes and big nights out.

Like we said at the start – you already know Elsie. Now discover her music.
