In 1991 the film The Commitments had its debut, stirring the hearts and souls of music lovers across the world. Now, to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Ireland’s favourite film, The Stars From The Commitments will perform three UK shows, including a date at Echo Arena Liverpool on Friday 16 March 2012.
The concert will be a full-blown soul extravaganza with songs from the movie and exciting extras.
A few of the members of the band, recognising the impending 20th anniversary, started looking into the possibility of a series of reunion gigs. It didn't take long for a team to form including Paul Bushnell, Music Director on the movie and co-producer of the soundtrack CD’s with Kevin Killen and Alan Parker.
There was a united feeling that a burst of Irish soul would be an uplifting evening for their fans.
“We gathered together in Dublin” says Bushnell, “performed a few songs as a band, then sat down over pints and thrashed it all out between us to see if we could make it work. And we did! So here we are!”
After a sell-out run of dates in Ireland earlier in 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary, the band are coming to the UK in 2012 for three dates only.
