Liverpool Sound City kicks off today and has announced its full day-by-day programming as the city-based festival takes over the UK’s music capital this May for a music, arts and cultural showcase like no other.
David Pichilingi, the festival’s director, says that, “Once more we are in Liverpool Sound City week and everyone’s raring to go for our fourth take over of the city.
"Yet again we have put together a truly inspiring lineup of some of the best new acts around, as well as bringing in some great global headliners to the region.
"With the support of Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Vision and The Mersey Partnership we have once again created a music, arts and cultural extravaganza which features world film premieres and the 50th anniversary of Mersey Beat along with our annual John Peel World Cup event.
"There’s also the truly global conference which takes place at The Hilton featuring keynote speakers and delegates from all over the world who will be debating the key challenges and fascinating developments around the music and digital technology industry.
"For the music, we are using some of the great city’s most iconic venues, including The Cathedral Crypt, The Bombed Out Church and of course St George’s Hall – don’t forget the Echo’s own show there with Sound of Guns – and over 300 bands will be here from Thursday 19th-Saturday 21st.
"Anyone coming to Liverpool Sound City will be spoilt for choice by some truly great musicians as we encompass everything from indie to rock through to post-punk action.
"There are some great names including The Kooks, Black Lips, Miles Kane, The View, Cast, Jamie XX, Radiohead’s Philip Selway, Funeral Party, Frank Turner, Steve Mason, Willy Mason, Eric Pulido, Marina Gasolina, Mona, and many, many more, as well as lots of great unsigned acts who could just be the next big thing.
"What makes Sound City so amazing and unique is Liverpool itself and the people. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together. See you on the dance floor!”
