Review: Boyzone at Echo Arena Liverpool

The Echo Arena was full to the rafters as the Irish boy-band (well, not so boyish anymore) Boyzone took to the stage on their first tour since the death of their friend and co-band member Stephen Gately.

The 'Brother' tour hit Liverpool and the crowd, which comprised of more mature ladies than screaming teens nowadays, were not disappointed as the sexy foursome belted out some classics as well as more recent tunes from their latest album.

Opening with Too Late For Hallelujah, the songs just kept on coming as they mixed new songs with old and everybody was on their feet for the entire evening.

As the guys went off stage for a costume change, the audience fell silent as the big screens were taken over by videos of the band paying tribute to their 'Brother' Stevo.

Tears began to fall as we watched how Ronan, Mikey, Shane and Keith came to terms with hearing the news of Stephen's death.

It was an emotional 10-15 minutes of footage and the crowd applauded the fitting tribute as it came to an end.

Once back on stage, the band sang a heart rendering version of Gave It All Away which carried the vocals of their much loved and missed friend.

Picture Of You, You Needed Me, One More Song, Till The Sun Goes Down, Love Me For A Reason, No Matter What, When The Going Gets Tough, Ruby, and their first number one Words were only some of the songs we were treated too.

After they said their farewells and departed the stage, the boys re-appeared in green velvet suits but this time giving the crowd a wonderful view, raised up on a platform in the middle of the arena for the encore.

With only inches between the lads and the crowd (and a lot of security) they serenaded us with Baby Can I Hold You and Ronan's Life Is A Roller Coaster.

All in all, it was a really good night from start to finish and as expected, the boys did not disappoint.

8/10

Boyzone will be touring the UK and Ireland during February and March 2011 with a 21 date tour of the British Isles with their arena-based Brother Tour.
