Written, Recorded, Released is a musical experiment spearheaded by local musician Matt Jewell. The aim is to follow the process of making an album; the catch is it will all be completed in just 30 days.
Sounds like a challenge! But one that Matt, who has been involved in the Liverpool music scene for ten years, is prepared to take on. Click Liverpool caught up with the man himself to find out more about this innovative project.
It is no easy task taking on such an ambitious project, but as Matt explains the aim of the project is quite a noble one as it aims to inspire people. Matt explains what he is hoping to achieve through Written, Recorded, Released:
“Two things: one is a selfish achievement; I hope to be excited by writing songs again, and now that I'm working with people I've been out of touch with for a while I've got the buzz back that I've been sorely missing.
“The other is that I hope to provide some insight into how albums are made (from my limited experience) to people that think they couldn't ever do this kind of thing.”
The project started on February 1st and runs for 30 days. Everything involved will be undertaken in that 30 day period, with only a small amount of necessary preparation done beforehand. As Matt says:
“Before the 1st of February I got a domain sorted, got a twitter account and made sure that my recording equipment worked.
“In terms of getting in contact with bands and stuff, it's all been within the 30 days. I've been in bands with so many musicians that I still need to contact because I'd love to have their contributions on this project.”
The project is due to culminate in just over a week, so how far along is Matt and what happens if it isn’t finished?
“We’re half way through! It's really scary, we’ve got a fair few songs written, but as far as making an album out of all of this - the pressure is really on!
“There are daily updates on the website, if it's falling behind schedule and it's not going to happen, I'll tell that website!”
And finally, what is Matt hoping the finished result will be?
“Hopefully, it'll be a finished project that people will like and that I will be proud of. If one person writes an album as a result of this, then I win.”
