Three brothers, Djiby, Cheik and Aliou Guisse mesmerise audiences with poetic lyrics, close harmony singing, two acoustic guitars and a variety of percussion, well rooted in the tradition of West Africa.
They like to describe their music as Universal, for all ages and races.
They originate from the Fouta Tooro area in the North of Senegal, and their music is based on different rhythms of the Toucouleur, such as the Yela.
fRoots magazine describe the band as “Dead impressive...upfront, punchy and dynamic.”
The group are one of Senegal’s finest musical exports and are no strangers to Liverpool, having played at the Africa Oyé festival in Sefton Park last summer.
Africa Oyé festival is the biggest African Music festival in the UK, and has been a big part of Liverpool for 19 years, growing from strength to strength as it moved from a series of small gigs in the city centre, to the two day festival, which will return this year. This tour is a part of their new initiative Oyé Touring and Trading, with which they hope to showcase African music all across the UK.
The concert will take place on the 17th March at the New Picket in Jordan Street, a beloved venue for Liverpool Music fans after they saved in from closure with a campaign to move to new premises in 2006.
Tickets are available through www.ticketweb.co.uk or 0844 77 1000 or in person from Dr.Hermans, Bold Street or Raggas, 57 Smithdown Road.
