A Feeling Of CALM Will Hit The Charts This Christmas

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), has seen off stiff competition to become the official charity partner for Cage Against The Machine; the Christmas Number One campaign which could see a silent night in the charts this festive season. Following a similar social network campaign to last year’s festive chart topper; Rage Against the Machine, Cage Against The Machine is hotly tipped to become this year’s Christmas Number One.

The re-release of 4’33” has had backing from over 61,000 people on Facebook as well XFM’s Eddie Temple Morris, The Kooks, Orbital, Jon McClure and The Libertines front man Pete Doherty. The re-recorded version will be available Monday 13th December 2010 and will feature these artists with many more heavy weights of the music industry still to be confirmed.

CALM was voted by the public in an online poll to become the recipient of the highest percentage of all profits made by the star studied re-release of John Cage’s ‘silent’ avant garde masterpiece “ 4’33” ”: four other charities will also receive a smaller proportion of any money raised from record sales and advertising revenue from the website.

The other four charities which will receive a donation from the money raised by the Cage Against The Machine campaign are; British Tinnitus Association, Nordoff-Robbins who specialise in musical therapy, Sound & Music, and Youth Music.

Simon Howes, Development Coordinator for CALM Merseyside said: "We are blown away by the response we had from the public, who voted for CALM in their droves, meaning we got almost as many votes as all the other charities combined!

"The pressures on young lads to deal with problems on their own is huge; many think no one wants to hear about their problems but we’re always ready to listen with our confidential helpline as well as the CALM website. The money raised by this campaign will help us continue to do the amazing work CALM does on Merseyside, keeping the phone lines open and being there when a guy feels he is ready to sort his head out.”

Dave Hilliard, founder of the Cage Against The Machine Campaign said: “The Cage Against The Machine Facebook group started as something to amuse myself over the summer. As it has gathered momentum we have decided to try and honour John Cage’s ideas and at the same time raise some money for some deserving causes. CALM is a great charity. They do good work and deserve more support and recognition.”
