Chart-topping boy-band JLS are the first act to be confirmed for this year's MOBO awards.

The pop idols are a major coup for the star studded ceremony, which for the first time will be held at Liverpool's ECHO arena in October.

Over the last 15 years MOBO has showcased some of the music industry's finest talent with performances from Rihanna, Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner, Jay Z, Destiny's Child and Sade.

MOBO founder, Kanya King, announced on Tuesday the nominees for this year's BeMOBO Award, which recognises the work of an organisation or individual that has made a major difference to local, national or international communities.

Previous winners have included Anti-Slavery UK, The From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation and War Child UK.

But this year the award will be given a regional focus after two of the three shortlisted organisations were Merseyside based.

Ms King has chosen Liverpool Young Writers aka The Cipher and Merseyside Dance Initiative, alongside boxer Eric Noi, from Oldham.

And the excited founder said: "We are thrilled to celebrate our 15th anniversary of the MOBO Awards in Liverpool and in light of the location have decided that the BeMOBO Award would spotlight individuals and organisations that impact the North West."

The 15th MOBO awards, sponsored by Lebara Mobile UK, will take place on 20th October at the ECHO ARENA.
