Could a new Hollywood fashion trend set be set by Kim Cattrall... a midnight blue flowing full-length gown with a mortar board cap?

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall donned the midnight blue formal gown when she was invested as an honorary Doctor of Letters at Liverpool John Moores University.

The award-winning actress, who plays sex-mad predator Samantha Jones in the hit TV show collected the award for her contribution to the arts.

Accompanied by her Liverpool relatives, blonde bombshell Cattrall was the centre of attention for the ceremony at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.

The 53-year-old star, who was born in Mossley Hill, before her parents moved to Canada when she was three months old, is also a patron of Liverpool's Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT).

Kim said: "I'm delighted to receive this honorary fellowship from John Moores University.

"It has an ethos encourages each student to dream, plan and achieve, an ambition that I can truly relate to.

"The university does fantastic work for performing arts and media students, so it really is an honour to become an advocate for the university and its screen school, which is committed to giving students a great start in the industry."

She returned to Liverpool last year to take part in the genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are?, where she traced her mum Shane's routes.

In October she will be back in Liverpool, appearing in the title role in Cleopatra
with actor Jeffery Kissoon, as Antony, at the Liverpool Playhouse.

Liverpool JMU Vice Chancellor Professor Michael Brown, said: "Kim is an exceptional actress and her commitment to the city of Liverpool and its arts community has been outstanding.

"Kim is an inspiration to students for her success and also for the pride and support she has shown to Liverpool.

"As a driven, talented individual who hails from the city, we are delighted she will join the LJMU family as an honorary fellow."
