Hollyoaks newcomer Sheree Murphy handed out race day fashion tips to Matalan shoppers as she officially launched the annual style competition for this year’s Grand National race meeting at Matalan Wavertree.

The actress and mum-of-three, who is married to footballer Harry Kewell was joined by Cricket boutique owner Justine Mills, international fashion designer Jeff Banks and celebrity hair stylist Zak Coldicutt for the launch event at Matalan’s store, in Wavertree, Liverpool.

The John Smith’s Grand National meeting takes place at Aintree Racecourse between April 8th and 10th.

Scouts will select the chicest people throughout day one and two to enter the Style 2010 competition with Liverpool Style ambassador Coleen Rooney announcing the overall winner on Saturday ahead of the prestigious Grand National race.

Sheree, 34, who annually attends the John Smith's Grand National meeting, said: “I love the National, for me, it’s the highlight of the event calendar and judging is so much fun.

“I always look forward to buying my Aintree outfit and will be hitting the shops next week to get it. I’ll probably go for something classic. I really like the elegant look it’s not always about being on trend but more what you’re comfortable in.

“My big style tip for the competition is to avoid fascinators and go for something more traditional like a hat or a soft hair up-do.”

Justine, a judge at the style competition, said: “Nudes are all in this season but if you want something a bit brighter try coral, it looks great and works for blondes and brunettes.

“A big tip is not to over accessorize, be comfortable and plan your outfit from the underwear up. An ill-fitting bra can really spoil the line of what you’re wearing.

Jeff said: “Liverpool is one of the biggest fashion centres outside of London which is always apparent at Aintree.

“This year, I’m going to be looking for someone who has really made an assessment of their style, who looks great and is not simply following a trend.

"For the men, I’d love to see them in hats they’re the perfect finish to a race day outfit.

The winner will bag a selection of top prizes including a Kia Venga car worth £12,000, a 10 day all inclusive Almond Resorts holiday to Barbados for two people and star treatment at a photo shoot at a top London studio. They will be styled by professional hair and make-up artists and directed by Banks. They will also receive VIP entry to the races on Grand National day.

There will also be a selection of spot prizes awarded on Thursday including a stunning Boodles Raindance diamond ring worth £7,500 and a Chloe handbag and purse pair from Cricket owner Justine Mills.

The Style 2010 competition will see entrants take to the catwalk in the style enclosure in the Red Rum Garden on Friday 8th April in front of a panel of judges.

The enclosure will also feature Matalan’s Fashion Doctor for those last minute hitches and thousands of fabulous goodie bags for race-goers who sign up for a Matalan reward card free of charge.

Prizes are also on offer for those who pre-register for the Style contest, go to http://www.aintree.co.uk/style2010 for more information.
