Not content with being a top flight footballer, businessman and bar owner, Jamie Carragher now fancies himself as a wine connoisseur.

The Liverpool FC defender has launched his own range of wines, aptly dubbed JC23 signifying his initials and shirt number, at his Café Sports bars and at other elite city venues The Sir Thomas Hotel and Newz Bar.

And it seems the 32-year-old has won over a number of celebrity fans after the range was tried and tested on Sky One's 'A League Of Their Own'.

Comedian host James Corden and guests including Freddy Flintoff, Neil Morresy, Gabby Logan and pals John Bishop and Jamie Redknapp sampled menues and wine owned by sports stars Jamie, Rio Ferdinand and Frankie Dettori.

The panellists were all suitably impressed with the wine, even ordering a number of bottles for their own consumption.

A source at the show said: "James Corden said it was one of the best wines he has ever tasted and ordered a few bottles for his partner in crime Mathew Horne.

"He said if David Beckham was to appear on the show, he would be impressing him with Jamie’s Wine and would warn him not to copy and do a DVB wine range as Jamie's would blow it out of the water!"

Self confessed wine-snob Gabby even admitted she would happily serve JC23 at her dinner parties.

The range, which maintains Liverpool FC's strong Spanish links as it comes from the Rioja region of the country, features four specially selected wines - a white -JC 23 Navarra Blanco, red- JC 23 Navarra Rosado, rosé - JC 23 Navarra Tinto and extra special Rioja Reserva Tinto.

Explaining how the wines were chosen to show football fairness, Café Sports partner Paul Flanagan said: "We already have an Everton red so we were looking for a bit of balance and we thought what can we do for Liverpool?

"We got a lot of wines in from our suppliers and after tasting sessions with Jamie, we chose these which come from a 150-year-old vineyard in Spain."
