Sir Paul McCartney has revealed Scousers thought he was German before the Beatles hit the big time.
The 67-year-old toured with the band in Hamburg before returning to his hometown in a bid to top the charts in the UK.
And Macca reckons fellow Liverpudlians forgot who the Beatles were when they returned home, despite the fact they had played numerous gigs in the city just months earlier.
Speaking about the band cracking America, Macca revealed: "It was kinda nice. We got popular in Liverpool.
"Then we played Hamburg and got popular there, then we came back to Liverpool and they thought we were from Germany, great memories they have.
"I was like you know; 'We were very popular here like two months ago.'
"Soon after we managed to make it big in England and then finally we went to America, which was where we really wanted to be."
And McCartney has admitted the early days of the Beatles were "the best times" of his life.
He added: "It certainly seemd like the best times, It really was a great thing.
"Because we got popular in Liverpool and England the time we got to America we were ready for it.
"There was sun, sand, girls, I mean come on."
