Filming for Powder, the forthcoming movie based on Kevin Sampson's critically acclaimed novel of the same name, landed in Liverpool City Centre and Click Liverpool was inadvertently in the middle of it all.

The crew spent last week filming around the city including a day shooting in the Parr St Studios complex, which also happens to be our new city centre HQ.

It was an action packed day as the production team shot scenes inside the world famous recording Studio 1, which has also recently been graced by Ian Mculloch, putting the finishing touches on the upcoming Echo and the Bunnymen album The Foutain?.

Following on from the recent success of Awaydays this is the latest on-screen adaption of a Kevin Sampson book.

Kevin's production company, Red Union Films, are behind the project. The celebrated Merseyside author told us about the ethos behind his film.

Speaking to us during a break in filming he said: "Our idea for Red Union was, over time, to create a library of well-crafted, locally produced films that are entertaining, have artistic inregrity, and that actually say something.

"Awaydays was a great start - a cult movie that will stand the test of time - and Powder will continue in that vein."

"It's a ripsnorting white-knuckle ride through the darkside of sex 'n drugs 'n rock 'n roll, with all the frollicks and hilarity of a band making it Big... but more than that, it tells us something about the nature of genius.

"Behind every universal anthem and behind our heroes' masks there's often a troubled soul with a story that's trying to get out. Powder will unpeel the layers, and tell the story."

It stars Alife Allen, sister of Lilly and son of Keith as well as Liam Boyle, Ralf Little and a host of cameo appearances from the likes of Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr,

Filming kicked off at the end of August at the V Festival and is set to conclude with a two week shoot in Spain next month. Last week scenes were shot in the city centre, Bootle and Speke.

Our exclusive photos come from Liverpool-based photographer John Johnson. Having worked as the official photographer on Awaydays Johnson was delighted to be given the same role on Red Union's Latest project.

"There's a real buzz about the place now, following the success of Awaydays there's a real vibe that this could be even bigger" John told us.

Stay tuned to Click Liverpool over the forthcoming months for more exclusive Powder news.

I thought Awaydays was a flop in the cinemas, had a box office of less than £100,000 as it was quickly pulled off screens.
