Liverpool striker Torres marries his childhood sweetheart

Liverpool player Fernando Torres has married his childhood sweetheart in a secret ceremony with only two guests.

The 25-year-old Spanish striker and his pregnant girlfriend, Ollala Dominguez, held the wedding in their local town hall in El Escoril, which is in the suburb north of Madrid, where they grew up together.

The happy couple, who have been dating for eight years, chose to tie the knot ahead of the birth of their first child, due to be born in two months' time

Their private understated wedding ceremony was presided over by a local councillor with the minimum of fuss.

Fernando and Ollala chose no magazine deals, no spread in OK! magazine, and no over-the-top reception, which is a far cry from recent Premiership footballers glittering and lavish events.

The intimate event couldn't have been more different from the weddings of Torres' team-mates and contempories, who have traditionally splashed out millions on elaborate nuptials and frequently sold the ensuing photographs to celebrity magazines.

Fellow team mate Steven Gerrard married his fiancee Alex Curran at an exclusive £500,000 wedding bash, which including entertainment from Take That singer, Gary Barlow.

The Liverpool captain's big day was held at the Cliveden House Hotel, in Berkshire with glamourous Alex wearing a £60,000 dress, having signed a lucrative magazine deal with a honeymoon in Florida.

Possibly the most costly footballer's wedding to date was that of Wayne Rooney's Italian ceremony to super WAG shop-a-holic Coleen.

Their ceremony and party was estimated at a lavish £5m, £2.5 of which was footed by OK! magazine in return for three weeks worth of exclusive interviews and picture coverage.


Chelsea defender Ashley Cole and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl tweedy had a similarly over-the-top wedding.

The groom wore white satin, the bride a meringue wedding dress, and chose a white horse and carriage to transport her to the church - with blacked-out windows to protect the all-important magazine exclusive.

Famously, the Beckhams set the bar for footballing weddings high back in 1999, when they married in an opulent ceremony in an Irish castle, employing 437 staff to serve their guests, and sitting in matching purple thrones at the head of the room for the reception.


Compared to his contempories, the cost of Torres' wedding was a drop in the ocean compared to today's ceremonies.

On his return from the small Spannish service, the striker signed an improved contract with Liverpool till 2013-20014, worth £110,000 a week to make him the clubs second highest-paid player after captain Steven Gerrard.

Since leaving Atletico Madrid 'El Nino' has bagged 50 goals in 83 appearances.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez added: "Fernando is one of the best strikers in the game today and, at his age, can only get better.'

Torres celebrated his newly married status with Ollala, when he attended fellow team mate Xabi Alonso's birthday bash in Liverpool's trendy the Bar and Grill Restaurant.
