Girls Aloud gig review

It was a girls night out for everyone in Liverpool as Britain's favourite female fivesome took over the Echo Arena.

Girls Aloud put on a spectacular show making it hard to believe that only a few years ago, Cheryl, Sarah, Nicola, Kimberley and Nadine were plucked from obscurity on a reality TV show.

The girls wowed the crowds on their 'Out of Control' tour from the very moment the smoke machine started to the fluttering ticker-tape at the end.

The show got off to a blistering start as they emerged from beneath the stage, their sculptured curves bound in shimmering white and silver outfits.

But as the show progressed, so did their confidence and each costume change saw a more scantily-clad outfit being worn.

The adolescent crowd went ballistic for the girls and sang along to their opening number Promise, which was undoubtedly their biggest single of last year.

The Liverpool leg of the tour held extra meaning for Nicola Roberts as she was playing to her home crowd, but any nerves or jitters were well disguised and the ginger singer shouted: "It's great to be in my home town, singing to all my fans."

Their well-choreographed dance moves were timed to perfection and their singing was not bad either.

Most of the difficult vocals were given to Irish beauty Nadine, who belted out the numbers like an old pro.

But if Nadine was the best singer, then Geordie lass Cheryl was clearly the fans favourite which could be heard by their appreciative screams every time she bowed down to the crowd.

My only criticism would be, the stage show, or lack of. The backdrops were minimal except from five video screens which honed in on each individual girl and the only other razz-a-matazz came from their outfits.

All in all the girls encore of classic hits brought the night to a satisfying conclusion for most young fans, inspiring them for generations to come.

As the 11-year-old girl sitting behind me said: "This has been, like, the best night of my life. I want to be in Girls Aloud."
