The three blue bald men, who use mime to perform spellbinding shows are heading to Liverpool next month to the delight of fans everywhere.

The iconic show which is currently touring combines music, percussion, live art, comedy and pantomime is performed by the world famous 'The Blue Man group'

That being said, not many really know or understand the Blue Man Group.

So Click caught up with Aurelien Bernard, one of the groups performers to try and fathom what all the fuss is about.

"It is like no other show on earth and really has to be seen to be enjoyed" says Aurelien.

"The show is surreal because we do not speak. But we incorporate light, art, music, paint and the odd marshmallow to convey our message and make it a show you will never forget."

Having had cameo appearances on hit shows like The Simpsons, Scrubs and The Tonight Show it is easy to understand why the group is already a household name across the other side of the pond.

More than two million people have seen the show in America but its one and only trip across the Atlantic was confined to London's West End.

Now the group are casting their net further a field and are embarking on a full UK arena tour.

Aurelien, who has been part of the group for the past six years, joined the movement after seeing an advert for open auditions in Las Vegas.

He wowed the judges with his drumming and musical talents, and soon Aurelien was snapped up to be part of the exclusive show.

Having never done acting before the Frenchman explains that learning the persona of the iconic blue man was the hardest thing to master.

He said: "There are three characters on stage and we all learn to play one particular one at first. Mine is kind of a mad scientist.

"You have to fake all these emotions through the character to the audience.

"When I was training I found the music quite easy to learn.

"But the hardest thing to pick up was the acting and learning how to restrict your movements.

"The timing has to be just right, every single night.

"By the end of the show we are mentally and physically tired because you have to concentrate so much and the moves can be really demanding."

The Blue Man movement first began back in the 1980's on the New York underground scene, where its original blue men wowed the crowds and word quickly spread about their amazing performances.

Since then The Blue Man group has more than 50 members all over the world who have all undergone the riguorius training.

However as the only Frenchman in the group, Aurelien says the best thing about being a blue man is he gets to perform like a celebrity while still being incognito.

He said: "I have the best of both worlds. I play to massive audiences and get to travel the all over doing what I love but I still get to keep my anonymity.

"It's like I get treated like a superstar on stage and then I can be walking home from an event with the rest of the crowds and no one knows who I am.

"I will be sat next to people talking about the show and they have no idea that they have just watched me.

"Thats the great thing about being a blue man."

But the question on everybody's mind is probably, why choose blue? And as the 34-year-old explains: "Blue is a fitting colour.

"If we were red we would look too angry, if we were green we would look like Martians.

"Yellow is not dynamic enough, but Blue is nice, it is a spiritual color representing peace and serenity.

"The paint we wear is specially made for us. We first put on a latex mask and then that is covered in a blue paint.

"It is really gooey, kind of like vaseline."

Despite their mass appeal, an aura of mystery always surrounds the Blue Man Group, which is also part of the attraction.

With their combination of grotesque pantomime and wordless, stimulating percussion and groovy rock music. The Blue Man Group create unique, innovative entertainment and their up and coming show will be no different.
