North-west fashionistas dusted off their hats and topped up their tans for ladies day at Chester races.
The second day of the May Festival saw the crowds flocking to the Roodee in their thousands to enjoy the sunshine, glamour and great racing action.
Almost 23,000 people celebrated the day including Manchester United players, Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher.
While WAG Jude Cisse, former model Mandy Smith and Big Brother 9's Mario and Lisa could also be seen knocking back the champers and cheering in the stands.
But some the best sights of the day were provided by the fillies who were out in force.
Despite the cold winds, girls wore dresses in every shape and size, from the strapless, backless and the utterly tastless.
Every self-respecting style-queen had applied a smattering of fake-tan, that resembled a colour more like the Holland home kit than a healthy glow.
Women in tacky prints coupled their outfits with teetering heels, topped off with a festoon of feathers poking out from their back-combed hair.
However not all was bad and some of the demure girls had dressed impeccibly well, taking their que from some of this seasons latest trends.
One stylish race-goer Victoria Jackson said: "It's nice that everybody makes the effort on ladies day.
"It's becoming more and more like Aintree every year with girls trying to out do each other in the style stakes.
"I'm just glad the rain managed to hold off otherwise the day would have been a wash out."
Commenting on the day Richard Thomas, Chief Executive of Chester Race Company, said: "Today has been fabulous.
"We've had great weather and that really makes a difference to the day, the racing has been top class and the ladies have made a real effort on the fashion side.
"It's great when we have the footballers and celebrities at the course but its just as important that the regular punter enjoys the experience.
"Chester is all about fun and I think that shows in the fact that our attendance today is up 3% on last year."
