Roly-poly funnyman James Corden has slammed teen soap Hollyoaks and said working on the show was like being locked in a prison.

And the chubby comedian even went so far as to say he "would rather die" than ever appear on the programme again.

The 30-year-old TV star had a small role in the Channel 4 soap more than eight years ago playing a college care-taker.

Since then James has shot to fame, winning two Bafta's for his writing on Gavin & Stacey and even co-hosted the Brit awards with Kylie Minogue.

But while he was working on the hit TV drama he describes it as "hell on earth" and said there was a lack aspiration that went into making the soap.

James said: "It was a horrible place to work. It was hell on earth.

"I'm sure it has changed a lot now but I was there a long, long time ago and I hated it.

"No-one cared about making TV they just cared about other things and that's not how I particularly like to work.

"There is not a huge amount of care or love that went into to making the show.

"It was a bit like a prison.

"There is a lack of aspiration and no-one wants to make it as good as they can.

And although the Fat Friends star says he made a couple of friends he said there were not that many nice people on set.

He added: "I met a couple of really good friends there, but it's only 20 per cent nice people.

"I would rather die than go back to appear on Hollyoaks."
