Christina Aguilera is looking to move away from her distinctive vocal warbling style and go Goth with help from Liverpool synth poppers Ladytron.
The cult quartet have long been one of the big-voiced diva's favourite bands, so she hired them to help push her in a new darker direction.
Ladytron founder Daniel Hunt told me: "We first heard that we were one of Christina's fave groups last summer. We were chuffed to bits.
"So we went over to LA to meet her in December where she identified the type of Ladytron songs that she liked.
"We were impressed because she had a real deep knowledge of our music - album tracks, not just the singles."
Industry insiders reckon Christina, 28, wants a change from her legendary three-octave vocal runs.
Danny, 29, explained: "She's an absolutely amazing singer but one of the things she talked about was working with a softer vocal sound, so I think the stuff we do will feature simpler melodies."
The end result is expected to mirror their own dark and moody brand of electronica but Ladytron don't mind the Dirrrty singer stealing their underground sound.
The Ladytron keyboardist, whose new single Tomorrow is released on March 2, added: "It's logical for her to go out and work with the actual band she likes, rather than simply try and copy the sound with someone else.
"We're gonna finish off some more tunes with her in March."
And don't rule out a live collaboration either.
Danny said: "We haven't discussed performing together but I'd love for us to do something - maybe be her backing band for a show or two."
Ladytron, who hit Europe's stadia with Depeche Mode this summer, expect the new tunes will materialise later this year.
