MySpace sensation to become global star

The best pal of X-Factor contestant Diana Vickers is set to become a global superstar after posting videos of herself on social networking site MySpace.

Following in the footsteps of Lily Allen and the Arctic Monkeys, Charlotte O'Connor has been snapped up by music execs, who spotted her singing on the web.

The 17-year-old only joined the site last year and has now signed a recording contract with music giants Colombia Records, the same label as UK stars Adele and David Bowie.

Former LIPA student Charlotte is currently working with the likes of Sasha Skarbek, who co-wrote the smash hit "You are Beautiful" for James Blunt, on her debut album.

And in her first interview since being signed, the teen star admitted she felt "numb" when she secured a deal and still can't believe it has actually happened.

The Blackburn beauty said: "I can't believe this has happened to me.

"I've wanted to sing since I was five-years-old.

"I used to dance around the house miming Bohemian Rhapsody to my mum and dancing around the room.

"That was when I first realised I loved performing in front of an audience and wanted to do it for the rest of my life."

"The day after I signed the contract I felt so weird.

"I can't even explain it, it was one of the best feelings ever but I felt kinda numb.

"You look at some of the artists on the label like David Bowie and Beyonce and you think to yourself 'how am I in the same company as people like them?'

"It's an honour, it's all quite mental."

But despite being tipped as "the next big thing", the modest musician has admitted she's not looking forward to fame.

She added: "I feel nervous when people say I'm going to be a star because what if I'm not?

"I'm scared everyone will be like 'go away you annoying northerner.'

"It's flattering that I'm dubbed the next big thing but it's a scary thing to be known as.

"Of course I'm scared of fame because I'm not here for that at all.

"The problem is if I make it as a musician I'm going to get it being in the public eye and stuff.

"I'm here to pour my heart out in a song and hope people relate to it and like it.

"Even if I don't make a penny, the feeling after a gig is a feeling that money can't buy."
