Actress Jennifer Ellison finally admitted defeat in her battle against injury and pulled out of the Liverpool Empire pantomime where she has been starring.

Despite two cracked ribs and a shoulder injury the former Brookside star had soldiered-on in the title role in Cinderella to packed houses and critical acclaim.

But yesterday (Sun) - the last day of the show's run - Jenny missed both the matinee and evening performances of the show that co-stared Cilla Black and Les Denis.

She had been undergoing physiotherapy and taking painkillers to combat the effects of the injuries she suffered when she tripped and fell awkwardly backstage before Christmas.

Jenny, 25, also missed six performances before a Christmas break after she was stuck-down with 'flu but returned to the stage on Boxing Day.

A theatre insider said: "Jenny has been such a trooper.

"She has been carrying a shoulder injury and was laid low by a 'flu bug but she was determined not to let the audience down.

"Sometimes she was close to tears with the pain that she was in as she came off stage. She deserves a medal for heroism!"
