Wayne and Coleen Rooney are buying a dream holiday home in a millionaire's playground on the Caribbean island of Barbados.

The pair are thought to have invested more than £1m on the Bajan villa where they will host lavish house parties for their families and pals at the exclusive Royal Westmorland golf resort.

Regular golfers on the course include Cliff Richard and Hugh Grant and the Rooney's neighbours will include Garry Lineker and Freddie Flintoff and Rooney's team-mate Rio Ferdinand.

Property developer John Morphet, 54, disclosed the Man Utd star is among the celebrities who have bought a villa at the resort as he announced plans for spending £337m to expand it.

The property bought by the Rooneys is thought to be a 6-bedroomed air-conditioned villa with its own swimming pool .

Like Wayne and Coleen, Mr Morphet started from relatively humble beginnings and has built a huge fortune.

After breaking his back during an accident at his Cumbrian farm at the age of 30 that father-of-five Mr Mophet started South Lakeland Caravans.

He recently sold that business for an estimated #100million though he still owns Lakeland Leisure Village at Carnforth as well as five-star caravan parks dotted across the country.

Royal Westmoreland is widely regarded as one of the most exclusive estates in the Caribbean and many of the wealthy investors rent out their homes to holidaymakers.

Masters champion Ian Woosnam has hailed the resort's 18 hole golf course one of the best in the world.
