Tranmere Rovers 3 Bury 0 - Match Report

Two penalties from Andy Robinson and a Jake Cassidy strike earned Tranmere Rovers a 3-0 victory over Bury at Prenton Park and consolidated their position at the summit of League One.

It was the visitors who started brightest, enjoying a spell of early pressure, and creating a handful of goalscoring opportunities.

They came closest on eight minutes when a Mark Cullen header threatened to bounce goalwards, but Rovers keeper Owain Fon Williams claimed the ball without too much trouble.

Tranmere soon settled into the game, testing Bury shotstopper Trevor Carson through Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro's left-footed volley, but they still looked vulnerable on the break.

When Ronnie Moore's side took the lead it was against the run of play. Ten minutes before half-time, Danny Holmes broke into the Bury area and was a brought down by Marcus Marshall, with referee Trevor Kettle pointing to the spot.

Rovers' leading scorer Robinson stepped up and fired his spot-kick straight down the middle of Carson's goal to bag his fifth of the campaign.

Akpa Akpro almost made it 2-0 five minutes later when he got the better of defender Efe Sodje, only to be denied by an instinctive stop from Carson.

Rovers had a pair of chances to double their advantage early in the second-half, with a long-range drive from Robinson parried away by the visiting keeper, and a deflected shot from the striker looping over the bar.

Fon Williams was forced into action at the other end when Craig Jones forced him into a save, but Rovers picked up their second on 68 minutes through another penalty.

Akpa Akpro latched on to Liam Palmer's pass, but was felled in the area by Adam Lockwood. Kettle pointed to the spot once again, and Robinson converted for his second of the night.

Rovers put the result beyond any doubt shortly afterwards, and Akpa Akpro was instrumental in their third. The Ivorian forward's low shot was parried by Carson, straight into the path of Cassidy, who made no mistake from close range.

The result extends Tranmere's unbeaten run at Prenton Park to 16 games, and leaves them top of the table with 17 points from seven games.

Moore's side are next in League One action on Saturday when they take on Crawley Town at Broadfield Stadium.
