Star of Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, Simon Rimmer, has been announced as a patron of The Southport Flower Show. And will commence in his role, by supporting the launch of the first North West Food Festival, which will take place at the flower show this year.

Wallasey born Simon, has been a massive fan of the Southport Flower Show since visiting as a child, and last year hosted a cookery demonstration in the show's Cookery Theatre, where he showed off his world-class talents.

Simon said: "The Southport Flower Show is an iconic event for Merseyside and it's so much more than just a flower show, as it has witnessed so many changes during its 83 years, and continually reinvents itself for a modern audience incorporating food, cooking, books, talks, demonstrations as well as the best in gardening and horticulture.

"The show has something to offer everyone, no matter what you're into - which is why I'm so keen to support it."

Simon will attend the Southport Flower Show on Saturday 18th August, and during the day will be presenting in the cookery theatre and demonstrating a variety of his favourite recipes. He will also be on hand to meet and greet the show's visitors and sign copies of books.

Southport Flower Show Chief Executive David Jackson said: "We are honoured that Simon has agreed to be a Paton of the show, our very first food Patron. His connections with the region and Southport are well known and his reputation and easy going style are a perfect fit for the show and I am sure that his visit will be enjoyed by everyone."

Tickets prices for the show have been frozen for the third year running, with advance tickets costing just £16 per person. For more up to date information on the show, celebrity announcements, details on how to enter the many competitions, and ticket bookings visit www.southportflowershow.co.uk.
