Sir Paul McCartney is an optimist, so despite having been widowed, then involved in an acrimonious divorce, there’s no reason his marriage to Nancy Shevell shouldn’t be “third time lucky”, according to top psychotherapist and relationship counsellor, Marni Eisenberg.

Marni believes that “at the ripe old age of 69” Sir Paul’s marriage to the much younger Nancy has a chance of surviving, as long as he is realistic enough to know that his beloved first wife, Linda, is not going to be replaced.

“When it comes to the death of a beloved spouse it is difficult not to idealise the relationship, and remember only the best parts about the marriage. There is nothing wrong with this – many optimists dwell only on the favourable bits of the past. It only becomes a problem when an expectation exists that it will be possible to fill the void that losing a ‘soul mate’ leaves behind,” counsels Marni.

Marni says she has judged Sir Paul to be an optimist because he is reported to dwell only on the positives of his disastrous second marriage to Heather Mills. He has also demonstrated that he is looking forward to a busy future, having just announced that he is putting on 11 shows of his “On the Run” tour, finishing up with a concert in his home town of Liverpool.

She maintains that Sir Paul and Nancy have a good chance at happiness as long as he does not compare his new wife to his first – Linda, the great love of his life.

“How can anyone compete with the state of perfection embodied in a love that goes on despite the demise of one partner?” asks Marni.

“Nancy must be revered for her own unique characteristics, qualities and not judged for her imperfections.”
