Rio Ferdinand has been dubbed the dunce of the Premier League tweeters after a language analysis tool was used to study the words on top footballers Twitter feeds.
The Manchester United defender was found to be the top-flight tweeter who used more 'basic language' on his page than any other, in a google analytics linguistics test.
The search engine tool, which divides language used on web addresses into three categories of 'basic', 'intermediate' and 'advanced' categories, was used to scan the pages of UK's most followed Premier League players.
Ferdinand was found to use 'basic words' in 88 per cent of his tweets, more than double the average of bottom level language among his peers.
Only 11 per cent of Rio's tweets included language which falls into Google's intermediate category.
Suprisingly, Wayne Rooney outstripped his team mate with an unexpected show of eloquence, over half of the words on his feed are classed as 'intermediate'.
Better known for his four letter rants, Rooney is one of the few Premier League stars to have registered any 'advanced' language on his account.
Other stars outdone by the unlikely wordsmith, are Jack Wilshere who racks up 54 per cent intermediate language and Joey Barton, half of whose tweets are considered 'basic'.
The research will give fuel to the feud which has raged between stars of the Premier League and chat show host Piers Morgan.
The former Britain's got Talent judge and Arsenal fan has a long running feud with Ferdinand and his team mates, who he regularly criticises for their poor spelling and grammar.
Morgan's most recent tweet congratulated Rooney on the proper spelling which sees him near the top of the footballers tweeting table.
He tweeted: "Your last ten tweets haven't contained a single spelling mistake @WayneRooney - congrats. My lessons are clearly paying off."
