A modern day King Midas has taken extravagance to the next level by creating the world's most expensive liquor - yours for a staggering £27m.

The D'Amalfi Limoncello Supreme liquor was custom made by Italian distillery Antica Distilleria Russo however it is the lavish bottle which boosts the bumper price tag.

Designed by celebrity jeweller Stuart Hughes, the trinket boasts three single cut, flawless 13 carat diamonds on the neck.

Even more opulent, one of the world's rarest gems, a rare single cut 18.5 carat diamond, is set into the body of the bottle.

Liverpool-based Stuart said: "The liquor was commissioned for an Italian lady who wishes to remain anonymous.

"The bottle is, of course, recyclable... we couldn't throw away #27m once the drink is gone!

"It's a simple but truly stunning idea... although I admit, personally, I'm probably happier with a pint of beer!"

The last remaining gem encrusted bottle is the latest luxury item created by Stuart's hands.

His previous creations have included a £600,000 diamond-encrusted suit, a £500,000 solid gold Nintendo Wii and a £3m custom-built fish tank.
