Black tie Cannes guests washed out at Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premiere

Black tie guests at The Cannes Film Festival found themselves washed out when a 20-minute rainstorm hit the premiere of the fourth film in the Disney franchise Pirates of the Caribbean, aptly titled "On Stranger Tides".

The red carpet event saw the glitterati caught up in the rain with many running for cover in the doorways of Dolce and Gabbana and Louis Vitton.

Scores of fans were amongst those caught up in the heavy down pour waiting for a glimpse of the film's stars Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Sam Claflin, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, director Rob Marshall and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Within half an hour the sun returned festivities to a pleasant 20 degree temperature.
