An army of hundreds of admirers turned out to catch a glimpse of Rebecca Ferguson and Cheryl Cole as the X Factor judge and her 24-year-old protégé made a one-day a visit to her Liverpool home town.

While in Liverpool, Rebecca visited her former school Gateacre Comprehensive, and performed a special free concert to an audience of thousands of admiring fans at the Echo Arena Liverpool.

Wearing a cute beige dress with a chic black coat to keep her warm, Rebecca looked overwhelmed by the amount of support she received from her fans, who had made signs and banners for the occasion.

One fan, Maria Williams said: "Becs has a wonderful voice she deserves to win. Some people say she does not move much when she performs but on her singing talent alone she must come top of the vote. We turned-out to show our support and wish her the very best of luck."

All of the show's finalists today visited their home towns ahead of the final.

While Rebecca was in Liverpool, One Direction headed to Doncaster, where they performed at Louis Tomlinson's old school, Hall Cross School.

And tomorrow night, Matt Cardle will perform a special concert for fans in his hometown of Colchester, Essex.
