'Brandmania' hits Liverpool as hundreds of fans queue to meet comedian Russell Brand, who was promoting his new autobiography My Booky Wook 2 at Waterstones.

The outrageous star sent an army of female - and male- fans wild by dishing out impromptu snogs to waiting fans while happily posing for photos and chatting to others.

At one point, the 35-year-old jumped into a shop window and began licking the glass as astounded passers-by looked on in awe.

Self-confessed 'Brandette' Lizzie Squires said: "I queued for three hours to meet Russell but it was more than worth it.

"It was absolute bedlam with so many girls vying for his attention, but then again he must be used to that.

"I couldn't believe it when he gave me a kiss because he's engaged to Katy Perry. I wasn't complaining though!"

The radio and TV presenter spent two hours in the store before causing chaos as he left through the front entrance into a mob of waiting fans.

The bearded funnyman was then smuggled into a car and whisked off to Manchester, where he was scheduled to peform at the Opera House.

Earlier, the former lothario chatted to Radio City 96.7 and revealed he still has a roving eye - despite being engaged to one of the most beautiful women in the world.

The scruffy funnyman said: "There's loads of really good looking birds in Liverpool. I love it here."

Brand even joked that fiancee Katy Perry should allow him a "reprieve" to act on his impulses.

He added: "I should try and get some sort of daily reprieve and organise some sort of contract.

"Let's just say Liverpool is regarded as a time bubble and whatever happens within that time bubble you can apply no moral judgement to."

During an interview with Rossie and Co. the Essex boy also revealed he can't drive yet owns a luxury sports car - a lilac Bentley Brooklands bought for him by his future wife.

Sex mad Brand said: "I'm like a 16-year-old professional footballer. I've got this car and I just sit in it in the driveway.

"I'm a comedian and it is quite funny that I can't drive and I've got a car. So I've fulfilled my job brief there."

Joking about the pitfalls of learning to drive, Brand added: "I'm trying to learn. I'm trying hard to grasp the basics and the gearstick.

"I practised the other day and I knocked over some bins.

"I had to get out and pick up the rubbish which was embarrassing because otherwise I'd have been littering."

Breakfast DJ Simon Ross suggested an automatic might be easier, to which the controversial star replied: "I thought an automatic was more like Knight Rider making all the decisions.

"It would say 'Hello Russell, sit down don't worry about those bins, I'll avoid those, you just have a little rest you're a good lad!"

Russell Brand's new autobiography, My Booky Wook 2, is out now priced £20.00.
